Another art gallery opened in Lagos this month. Well known financial services corporate group, Coronation, opened the gallery on Friday May 13, 2022 at 10 Ojikutu Street, off Saka Tinubu Street, Victoria Island.
Its opening featured presentation of arts–paintings and mixed media–from professionals such as Oluwole Omofemi, Otis Kwame Kye Quaicoe, Bunmi Agusto, Abe Obedina, Tonia Nneji, Debora Segun, Peju Olatise, Ndidi Emefiele, and Henry Mzili Mujunga.
These masterpieces were loaned from Aigboje Aig-imoukhuede, an ardent collector of arts. Whilst Coronation Group organized the event, Ugoma Ebilah, the founder of Bloom Art Gallery, curated the art exhibition.
“In commemoration of the launch of the Coronation Art Gallery, we proudly present a survey exhibition of works by artists who represent the zeitgeist of contemporary African artworks, carefully excerpted from the generously loaned private collection of Mr Aig-Imoukhuede,” reads the official statement.
Many of the works on display were oil and acrylic paintings while others included products of wrought iron, charcoal, fiberglass, graphite, and digital prints.
The overall purpose of the exhibition was to celebrate the culture of collecting art–an opportunity to appreciate people like Mr Aig-Imoukhuede, an active art collector.
