General Guidelines
Before submitting or pitching written works, photographs, or visual content to Kurating, please review our guidelines, which are spelled out below. The guidelines cover formatting, style, and submission details.
Story Pitches
Writers can submit story and essay ideas to Kurating by sending an email containing a paragraph-long pitch as well as a proposed writing timeline to submit@kurating.com. Pitches are to be addressed to the ‘Submissions Editor.’

Essays
We accept all observation essays, opinion articles, artist profiles, and critical writing that makes understanding and experiencing all kinds of art straightforward and/or joyful.
To submit, email a manuscript or first draft of 800 – 2,000 words to submit@kurating.com. Also, include a synopsis of your essay in the body of your mail.
The documents submitted should be formatted in font size 12, Times New Roman, and 1.50 line spacing.
Manuscripts must be attached to emails in .docx format (not links to documents sent in the mail) and saved with the writer’s name, essay title, and submission type (“Essay”).
Reviews
We are always interested in publishing reviews of all kinds of visual, performing, and conceptual art by Nigerians. These include reviews of installation art, theatre, music and dance, crafts, painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, photography, film, design, and architecture.
To send us a review, email us at submit@kurating.com. Attach your manuscript or the first draft of your review in .docx format to your email and include a paragraph-long pitch in the body.

Word count: No more than 1500 words.
Photographs
We accept photographs of artworks or art events and photo essays on fine art or trends in the Nigerian art scene. To submit your photographs and photo essays and have them featured on our website and/or on our social media pages, kindly upload at least three photographs from your project in one Word document and email it to us at submit@kurating.com.
All photographs submitted should be captioned correctly. Photo credits must be written so: l If the photographer and entrant own the photographs submitted, cite them as: Artist last name, First name. “Image Title” (“Unknown” if the title is unknown.) Year.
– If the photographs submitted are of exhibits or photographs shown in a museum or gallery, kindly cite thus:
Artist last name, First name. “Image Title.” Year (as written on museum label), Institution Name, City. Photographed by: Entrant’s name. Year photograph was taken.
– If the photographs submitted have been sourced online or with the express permission of the publisher, kindly cite this:
Author last name, First name. “Image Title.” Website Name, Day Month Year, URL.
Press Releases
To feature any forthcoming events and announcements in our ‘Art News’ section, submit a press release to submit@kurating.com. Press release submissions should include a brief cover letter (as the body of the mail) with the press release attached as a document.
Articles, social media handles, personalities, and submissions or event details (if any are mentioned in the press release) must be hyperlinked to the source website or social media platform.
Press release documents should be saved with the organization’s name, the title of the release, and the submission type (“Press Release”.) Kindly include a press contact (their name, email address, and phone number) at the end of the document
Media Collaboration Pitches
We are enthusiastic about collaborating with artists, curators, and organizers from all over Nigeria who are hosting events or executing projects to celebrate art and art appreciation in Nigeria. To pitch a media collaboration to us at Kurating, email a pitch of no more than two pages to comms@kurating.com.
